Visiting Long Reach used a three-back rushing attack to take control early and beat Howard County rival Mount Hebron, 33-14, yesterday.

Senior running back Landon Tews (eight carries, 40 yards) had three of the Lightning's five touchdowns, on runs of 1, 4 and 5 yards.

Tews, slotback Vince Furby and quarterback Keith Richardson combined for 278 of Long Reach's 340 rushing yards. Furby (six carries, 138 yards) started the scoring with an 80-yard run in the first quarter. Richardson (17, 100) finished off the Vikings (2-1) with a 34-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The Lightning (2-1) faces a team that relies on the run as much as it does next week in Glenelg (2-1).

Poly 28, Patterson 12 -- The visiting Engineers (2-1) got a surge from their backfield tandem of Lee Reynolds (three touchdowns) and Javon Little (17 carries, 183 yards) in the win over the Clippers. The win marks Poly's first triumph over Patterson (2-1) since the mid-1990s.
