Partners in Care seeks volunteers

Partners in Care seeks volunteers to transport seniors to appointments and to help with domestic needs. Drivers will earn volunteer credits and receive reimbursement for mileage.

Orientation will be at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday at 348 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Registration is recommended.

Basketball league in need of helpers

Anne Arundel County public schools seek volunteers to help out with a new adult male basketball league, made up of fathers and male guardians of children who attend Annapolis-area elementary and middle schools. Volunteers are needed to keep score, manage equipment, be cheerleaders, assist with the concession stand and serve as assistant coaches. The league will play Thursdays, this week through April, at Wiley H. Bates Middle School or at Wiley H. Bates Heritage Park.

Middle, high school tutors are sought

The Advancement Via Individual Determination program seeks people to tutor middle school and high school students. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and willing to commit to one semester at one of the AVID sites for a minimum of one 30- to 40-minute session a week during school hours. Training will be provided at the Care Staff Development Training Center in Gambrills from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 27 and 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 6. SPCA seeking help with upkeep

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Anne Arundel County seeks volunteers to assist with providing foster care, the upkeep of the animals in the kennel, adoption shows and other shelter duties. Volunteers must be older than 18.

The SPCA is also accepting donations of dog and cat food, 6-foot nylon leashes and adjustable nylon puppy and adult collars, covered cat beds (not foam), grooming brushes, combs, nail trimmers and clippers and other items.

The shelter accepts donations from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. other days.

Work to strengthen family, town bonds

The group Youth Energized by Agents of Hope! seeks volunteers to help build stronger ties among children, parents and their communities.

YEAH! is an after-school enrichment program held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis and serves families with third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at Rolling Knolls and West Annapolis elementary schools.

Rabies program seeks help with baits

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health is seeking volunteers for its raccoon oral rabies vaccination program this month. Volunteers will be trained to distribute baits in likely raccoon habitats in residential and wooded areas.

Participant must be older than 18 and can set their own schedule. Baiting will be done from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Help issuing items to homeless sought

Happy Helpers for the Homeless, a nonprofit organization that provides food, toiletries and clothing to the hungry and homeless, needs volunteers to assist with food distribution from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays in downtown Baltimore and Glen Burnie.

Donations of toiletry items, men's socks and clothing, blankets, shoes in good condition, dry goods, nonperishable items, plastic sandwich bags, lunch meat and fresh fruit will be accepted.

Volunteers can meet in Glen Burnie to travel together to Baltimore.

The Chesapeake Ecology Center seeks volunteers to help with planting and maintenance of the environmental projects it does with community groups and students. An adult should accompany volunteers under age 16.

Arts center needs ushers, other aid

The Chesapeake Arts Center seeks volunteers age 16 and older to serve as ushers and run the box office for performances at the Brooklyn Park theater, assist with projects, distribute fliers, help with props and mailings, and work in the office. The center is also seeking members to serve on the board of directors.

Riding program seeks volunteers

Maryland Therapeutic Riding in Crownsville needs volunteers to side-walk and lead horses and to work in the barn and care for horses used in horseback riding lessons for children and adults with special needs.
