ASHBURN, Va. -- The foibles of the secondary were the focal point of the criticism heaped on the defense after the Washington Redskins lost to the Minnesota Vikings, 19-16, Monday night at FedEx Field.

The injury to Shawn Springs that kept the veteran cornerback out of the season opener, the glaring mistakes by Carlos Rogers and the penalties, particularly two against safety Sean Taylor, were all part of the defensive breakdowns.
