MC competition

The lowdown -- See some of the area's better MCs spit at tonight's One Mic MC Battle III: Legends of the Fall. Held at the 5 Seasons, the battle features about 40 MCs competing in a bracket tournament. Five judges will determine the winner, who gets a championship belt, a $400 gift certificate from Downtown Locker Room and a cash prize.

Improvised music

The lowdown -- Tonight, the High Zero Fest begins four days of live improvised music from dozens of avant garde artists at the Theatre Project. Each show will have about four hours of music.

If you go -- High Zero Fest runs tonight through Sunday night at the Theatre Project, 45 W. Preston St. Performances are at 8:30 p.m. today, tomorrow and Sunday and 1 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Fashion Strut

The lowdown -- Head to Power Plant Live on Saturday evening for Strut, the annual fall fashion show. Strut showcases clothing and jewelry from local boutiques Box of Rain, South Moon Under, Classic Serendipity and others and live music by DJs Lovegrove and Adam Auburn. When the show ends, Mosaic hosts an after party.
