Fallston man shot; neighbor charged

A 48-year-old Harford County man who recently retired from the Army shot his neighbor in the arm Saturday, authorities said yesterday. Chester Wayne Craig, 48, was being held at the Harford County Detention Center on $500,000 bond on charges of assault and reckless endangerment, said Bob Thomas, a spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, Levi Glen Lloyd, 38, was treated and released from Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air for a wound to his upper left arm, Thomas said.

Police were called to the 2300 block of Furnace Road in Fallston about 7:50 p.m. Saturday. Lloyd was aboard a riding lawn mower in his backyard when he was shot, Thomas said. "He immediately felt a severe pain and noticed a small wound, which was bleeding," Thomas said. "He looked around and noticed Craig getting up from a slouching position from behind the shrubbery." Police searched Craig's home and seized several guns, as well as the weapon believed to have been used in the incident, a .22-caliber rifle, Thomas said.

Chesapeake: Boat fire

One person dies in refueling blaze

One person was killed Saturday after a small outboard dingy attached to a sailing vessel caught fire on the Chesapeake Bay off Rock Hall, the Coast Guard said.

The fire - reported shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday - occurred during a refueling operation between the dingy and the 38-foot sailboat Vision Quest, the Coast Guard said.

Crews from the Coast Guard's Annapolis and Curtis Bay stations were dispatched, and found two people in the water and one person - apparently unhurt - still on the sailboat. The people rescued from the water were taken to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead, the Coast Guard said. Names were not released yesterday.
