County government classes at CCC

Carroll Community College and the county government are offering Carroll County Government 101 and 102 classes this fall.

Carroll County Government 101 will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays through Oct. 11 at Fairhaven Retirement Community in Sykesville.

Staff from citizen services, the county attorney, recreation and parks, planning, public works, public safety support services, general services, management and budget, comptroller, and the commissioners' office will give an overview of their office and answer questions.

Carroll County Government 102 will focus on additional areas of government.Government 102 classes will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 29 to Oct. 31 at the college's 1601 Washington Road campus. Students don't have to take Government 101 to take 102.

The cost is $20 for each program.

School board to meet Wednesday

The Carroll County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Room 007 of the board offices, 125 N. Court St., Westminster.

Meetings will be broadcast live on CETV, Channel 21 on Adelphia cable TV and repeated at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sunday and the following Thursday, and 9 a.m. Saturday.

Boy Scouts to hold Cub open houses

The Boy Scouts of America/BAC Carroll District will hold Scout Open Houses at local Carroll County elementary schools this month.

The open houses are an opportunity to learn about the Cub Scout program and meet members from the local Cub Scout Pack.

Open houses are at 7 p.m. as follows: Wednesday, Carrolltowne, Cranberry Station, Eldersburg, Linton Springs, Parr's Ridge, Taneytown, William Winchester; Thursday, Elmer A. Wolfe, Charles Carroll, Manchester, Parr's Ridge, Piney Ridge, Robert Moton, Winfield; Sept. 18, Freedom; Sept. 19, Westminster; Sept. 21, Mount Airy, Runnymede, Sandymount; Sept. 25, St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Schools closed tomorrow, Tuesday

Carroll County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow for a professional development day for teachers and Tuesday for primary elections.

Bartlett to visit New Middle pupils

Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R-6th) will visit New Windsor Middle School on Friday.

Pupils will honor Constitution Day with a variety of classroom activities.

Bartlett will join pupils and staff at 1:30 p.m. for an assembly where he will present participants with a pocket copy of the U.S. Constitution.

CCC offers class for first responders

Carroll Community College is offering a first responder class.

First responder teaches emergency medical skills and knowledge that will enable the student to assist people who have been injured or are having a medical emergency.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a National Safety Council Certificate, and may test with Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems to be a Maryland Certified First Responder.

Classes are from 6 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Sept. 19 to Nov. 14 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday Nov. 4 at 1601 Washington Road, Westminster (no classes 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/10 and 10/12).

The cost is $545 ($109 for senior adults), including texts.
