Yankees update

Riding the hot bats of Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter, the Yankees have won seven of 10 to create even more distance from the Boston Red Sox in the American League East. The much-maligned Rodriguez, who is just 6-for-38 (.158) with no homers and three RBIs in 10 games against the Orioles this season, is 11 for his past 27 with five home runs and 10 RBIs. Jeter is carrying a 17-game hitting streak. Outfielder Bobby Abreu is hitting .355 in 36 games since joining the club in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies. Mussina was beaten by the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, giving up four earned runs and eight hits in five innings in his first start since Aug. 20. Mussina was on the disabled list with a strained groin. Johnson, who is 5-1 in his past six starts, is 1-0 with a 3.80 ERA in three starts against the Orioles this season. The Orioles are 5-7 against New York this season.
