Victim named -- Police identified the man fatally shot Wednesday night in the 600 block of N. Montford Ave. as Derrick Miller, 27, of the 200 block of Spring Court. Charged with murder in a killing in December 2001, Miller was acquitted at trial in 2003 when a key witness recanted, the city state's attorney's office said.


Arrest -- After stopping a young man on Venable Avenue on Wednesday morning for driving an illegal motor scooter, police searched him and found a loaded .32-caliber semiautomatic handgun. Arrested and charged with handgun possession was Darren G. Thorpe, 18, of the 700 block of E. 36th St.


Drug arrest -- Keith Amos, 25, of the 500 block of E. 30th St., was arrested at his home Wednesday by district drug enforcement officers and charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, said Detective David Jones. Amos also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.


Arrest -- Jonathan Everett, 20, of the 2500 block of Harlem Ave., was arrested yesterday in St. Louis by U.S. marshals on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder. Everett is accused of shooting Teon White, 25, of the 2000 block of Braddish Ave. as the victim walked to a store in the 2100 block of Koko Lane on July 28.
