The skinny on local clubs

The Owl Bar

With plenty of stained glass, a high ceiling and well-dressed staff of waiters, the Owl Bar has an elegant, timeless feel. It's in the Belvedere Hotel, on the ground floor off the lobby.

Where -- the Belvedere Hotel, 1 E. Chase St.

Call -- 410-347-0888

Web site -- www.theowlbar. com

Notable -- Draft beers are $2, rails are $3, and wines are $4 during happy hour, which runs 4 p.m.-7 p.m. weekdays. We've heard that chefs sometimes bring out free food during happy hour, but we didn't see any on a trip there last week.

Vibe -- Most nights, the Owl Bar is great for conversation. Even when it's nearly full, you can hear yourself think.

Crowd -- Usually it's well-dressed urbanites in their late 20s and early 30s.

What to wear -- Post-work attire (khakis, skirts, ties, etc.) is most prevalent on weeknights. On weekends, you can feel comfortable in black pants or jeans and a nice shirt.
