Man pleads guilty to fatal stabbing

An Annapolis man pleaded guilty yesterday to second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend in the bathroom of their apartment, Anne Arundel County prosecutors said.

Assistant State's Attorney Anastasia Prigge said she would seek the maximum prison sentence of 30 years for Jose Cacimiro Amaya, 39. What led to the Sept. 11, 2005, attack against Angela Holland, 41, remains unclear. One witness said she had refused to give Amaya drinking money several hours earlier, and another witness said Amaya and his friends had been drinking and that Amaya grew angry over a conversation Holland had with one of his friends, Prigge said.

Amaya is scheduled to be sentenced by Circuit Judge Nancy Davis-Loomis on Oct. 23.

Woman's body found in Finksburg house

The body of a woman was discovered yesterday morning by deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in a bedroom of a Finksburg house in the 3200 block of Murray Road, authorities said.

One of the residents of the house reported meeting the woman, who was in her mid-20s, in Baltimore over the weekend and knew her as "Tanya," police said.

The body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy, police said.

Anyone with information on the case should contact detective Richard Hart at 410-386-2900.
