What do you get when you gather 200 of the nation's top artists and their works in one place for two days? You get the Alexandria Festival of the Arts. The outdoor festival, which takes over six blocks of King Street in Old Town Alexandria, Va., takes place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 10. From Washington and King streets to Union and King streets, 200 artisans will sell their wares, including paintings, sculptures, glassworks, photography, ceramics, woodworks, jewelry and accessories, while live entertainment takes place on Market Square at 300 King St. Performers include the Joe Chiocca Band, Dancin' Unlimited, the John DC Allstars and others.

Also, as part of the festival, families can visit the nearby Torpedo Factory Art Center, 105 N. Union St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and get hands-on at the Alexandria Arts Safari event. Kids of all ages can create clay works, make a tie-dye item, build a plaster body cast and watch artist demonstrations.

All events are free and open to the public.
