Bar patron shot in robbery attempt

A 57-year-old Baltimore man was shot in the lower back as three gunmen attempted to rob a Northeast Baltimore check-cashing business and bar yesterday afternoon, police said. The man, who was not identified, was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital and was listed in critical condition, police said. Police gave this account: Officers responded at 12:29 p.m. to a call at New Garden Inn in the 5500 block of Belair Road. The three men fled the bar on foot heading north on Belair Road.

Owings Mills man killed in car crash

An 18-year-old Owings Mills man was killed Friday night in Reisterstown when the car in which he was riding went out of control on Tufton Avenue at Dover Road and hit a fence, police said. Marc Goldberg was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m. after he was thrown from a 1994 Chevrolet Corsica driven by a 17-year-old Reisterstown resident, police said. The driver, who was not identified by police, was taken to Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. His condition could not be determined.
