Veterans reunion

The Poplar Springs Hotel in Ellicott City was the site of a Confederate Civil War veterans reunion Aug. 28, 1879. Surviving members of Company A, 1st Maryland Regiment C.S.A., gathered for dinner and speeches.

According to an article in The Sun, a dozen participants, all veterans of the Army of Northern Virginia, "met in social intercourse and fought over again the campaigns of the late memorable strife from Manassas to the surrender at Appomattox - where the Maryland regiment made the last charge before the surrender. ... Although the smallest number ever in attendance, the twelfth reunion was none the less prolific of pleasure and profit to those present."
