HISTORICAL-GARDEN LECTURE

Learn about the development of woodland gardens in Ireland and Canada at the talk "In Veronica's Garden," 7 p.m. Tuesday at Longwood Gardens, U.S. 1, Kennett Square, Pa. Author Margaret Cadwaladr (In Veronica's Garden, Madrona Books, 2002) will discuss the life of Veronica FitzGerald Milner and her creation of these elaborate gardens. Hear stories about the stained-glass windows on a tour of the Washington National Cathedral, 1:30 p.m. Sept. 3. The tour is geared to visitors age 10 and older. POTOMAC EXHIBIT

Visit Protecting America's Wildest Urban River: From Floods to Flowers in the Potomac Gorge, an exhibit on what is being done to protect the river and gorge, featuring a mini-landscape, huge colorful map, educational information and photos, at the U.S. Botanic Garden Conservatory, 100 Maryland Ave. S.W., Washington, through Nov. 19.
