Robert E. Donellan Sr., 72, executive

Robert E. Donellan Sr., a retired insurance company executive and former Baltimore resident, died of cancer Aug. 16 at a hospice in Sarasota, Fla. He was 72.

Mr. Donellan was born in Baltimore and raised in Hamilton. He was a 1952 graduate of Loyola High School and attended Loyola College and the University of Maryland.

After serving in the Army, he went to work in 1958 for Maryland Casualty Co. He managed its offices in Newark, N.J., Memphis, Tenn., St. Louis and Chicago before retiring as a vice president in 1989.

Mr. Donellan, who lived in Englewood, Fla., was an avid Ravens, Orioles and University of Notre Dame football fan.

Services were held Saturday in Florida.

Surviving are his wife of 26 years, the former Linda Schmidt; a son, Robert E. Donellan Jr. of Gulfport, Miss.; three brothers, Patrick Donellan of Catonsville, Monsignor Thomas Donellan of Towson and William Donellan of Heathsville, Va.; a sister, Helen Lewis of Greensboro, N.C.; and a grandson.
