Back-to-college 5K race to be held

A 5K race is scheduled Sept. 1 at Towson University as part of a monthlong "Welcome Back to Towson" celebration for students at area colleges.

The XTERRA Towson Block Party Scramble 5K is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., starting at Burdick Field at Towson University and ending on Pennsylvania Avenue in downtown Towson.

A portion of Pennsylvania Avenue will be shut down for a block party to celebrate the new school year.

Pennsylvania Avenue will be closed to traffic after 1 p.m. to allow for event set-up.

The event is sponsored by the Towson Chamber of Commerce, Goucher College, Towson University, Charm City Run, Black and Gold Catering, Starleigh Entertainment and the Baltimore Collegetown Network.
