Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes from police reports in Baltimore and Baltimore County.



Theft -- Two large cast-iron grates that have protected the front doors of the Institute of Notre Dame for six decades were stolen between 9 p.m. Monday and 5:15 a.m. Tuesday from the 158-year-old school in the 900 block of Aisquith St. Sister Hilda Marie Southerland, a teacher and caretaker at the 420-student school, was unable to place a value on the grates, which carry the letters IND. Officer Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman, said videotapes from nearby police surveillance cameras were being reviewed to determine whether the theft was recorded. Anyone with information was asked to call the Eastern District at 410-396-2433.

Arrest -- James Uttley of the 1100 block of Comet Court in Baltimore County was arrested yesterday in the 1000 block of Orleans St. on a warrant charging him with attempted murder. Uttley, 20, is accused of shooting a 17-year-old girl April 28 in the 1500 block of E. Oliver St.


Robbery/arrest -- A 43-year-old man told police that after buying what he thought was crack cocaine for $4 from a man in the 1100 block of W. North Ave. Tuesday night, he realized the substance was a piece of soap. But after confronting the supposed drug dealer, he was robbed at gunpoint of another $4. Arrested a short time later and charged with armed robbery was Rashind Khoma, 24, of the 300 block of S. Collins Ave.

Shooting -- A 30-year-old man standing in the 400 block of Watty Court at McCulloh Homes was shot in the groin and left hip about 12:30 a.m. yesterday by one of three approaching men. The victim was reported in good condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Theft -- A computer printer valued at $1,500 was stolen Tuesday from a U.S. government-owned 2005 Ford parked in the 1000 block of N. Calvert St.


Arrest -- Officer David Jones of the Southeastern District was working an off-duty security detail at a store in the 1200 block of W. Pratt St. about 3 p.m. Monday when he observed a fight between a man and a woman on the rear parking lot. As Jones approached, he was struck by a vehicle the woman was driving in an attempt to flee. Arrested and charged with assaulting Jones and the other man was Stephanie Stancil, 23, of the 1000 block of Beechfield Ave. Jones was not seriously injured.

Burglary -- A 60-pound jackhammer valued at $1,300 was stolen over the weekend from a storage trailer parked on Buttonwood Road near Trumps Mill Road.


Burglary -- Over the weekend, someone entered King Pallets in the 1100 block of Hengemihle Ave. and stole 154 wooden pallets - all valued at $1,364.
