Hornsby indicted

A federal grand jury indicted former Prince George's County Schools Superintendent Andre J. Hornsby yesterday on charges that he orchestrated an elaborate scheme to award school contracts to financially benefit himself and worked vigorously to ensure he was never caught. It includes charges of mail and wire fraud, evidence and witness tampering, and obstruction of justice. pg 1a

Plea deal frees convict, 71

After two decades in prison for a murder he says he did not commit, 71-year-old Robert C. Griffin took a plea deal yesterday that permitted him to leave the Baltimore courthouse a free man. DNA evidence had exonerated him. pg 1a
