James Gary Waters, steelworker and history buff, 60

James Gary Waters, a retired steel worker and history buff, died Aug. 15 of a neurological disorder at his home in the Eastwood neighborhood of Baltimore County. He was 60.

Mr. Waters was born in Baltimore and raised in Phoenix, Ariz. After serving in the Navy, he returned to Baltimore in 1975 and became a mill worker at Bethlehem Steel Corp.'s Sparrows Point plant. He retired in 1997 because of failing health.

Mr. Waters enjoyed maritime history and reading about World Wars I and II.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, 6400 E. Pratt St.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, the former Leslie Zubrowski; two brothers, Mark Waters and Anthony Waters; and three sisters, Suzanne Lookingbill, Carolyn Mosher and Marianne Struber, all of Phoenix.
