Hospital schedules August activities

Harbor Hospital will offer the following activities:

Free immunizations offered to students

The Anne Arundel County Health Department has announced that immunization requirements for children in preschool through ninth grade have changed this year.

The department is offering free immunizations for county children from birth to age 18. Vaccinations are free, but a $10 donation is appreciated.

Contact the health center in your area for an appointment or schedule of walk-in clinics at Parole Health Center, 1950 Drew St. (410-222-7247), or Glen Burnie Health Center, 416 A St., N.W. (410-222-6633).

Hospital in need of blood donors

Anne Arundel Medical Center reports a critical shortage of all blood types, especially O-positive.

The center's blood bank is open for donations:

Mondays, 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Fridays, 7:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Appointments: 443-481-4215.

Hospital offers support groups

Anne Arundel Medical Center offers several support groups for the community:

Alzheimer's support group for caregivers. Meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month in Suite 250, Sajak Pavilion. 410- 721-3258.

Amputee support group. Provides information for amputees, their families and health care providers. Meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Thursday of the month. Call for location. 410-268-6080.

Cardiac support group. Meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, Suite 250, Sajak Pavilion. 443-481-1925.

Celiac support group. Meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the second Friday of the month. 410-672-5834.

Crohn's/colitis/IBD support group. Meets at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month in Suite 250, Sajak Pavilion. 410-626-7755.

Healing arts group schedules programs

The American Healing Arts Alliance is sponsoring these programs:

County schedules waste disposal

The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works has announced a schedule for household hazardous-waste disposal days:

Sept. 9, Glen Burnie Convenience Center.

Oct. 21, Millersville Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility.

Nov. 18, Glen Burnie Convenience Center. Drop-off times for all dates and locations are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Information: 410-222-7951.

Medical center plans yoga classes

Anne Arundel Medical Center is offering these yoga classes:

"Beginning Yoga," the basics of Hatha yoga, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, or 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays.

"Continuing Yoga," an intermediate class, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

"Mom and Baby Yoga and Infant Massage," 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays. The fee is $40 for four weeks.

"Mommy and Me," which covers postpartum issues, 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Fridays.

"Therapeutic Yoga," covers comfort levels, breathing exercises and focus, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesdays and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays.

"Prenatal Yoga," for expectant mothers (physician's consent required), 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays.

Unless otherwise noted, classes are $10 each and will be held on the second floor of the Sajak Pavilion. Monthly registration required.

Sports health classes offered at rec gym

The Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department is offering classes on sports health at the Recreation Center gym:

Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., an open gym for toddlers and preschoolers ages 5 and younger. Slides, tunnels, mats and balls. Drop-in fee: $2.

Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., introduction to soccer for ages 4 to 6. Fee: $55.

Saturdays, 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., soccer basics for ages 3 and 4 with a parent. Fee: $45.

Saturdays, 10:30 a.m., "Be Active Together," parent-and-child interactive physical activity with nutrition lessons for ages 4 to 6; a class for ages 7 to 9 will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fee: $45 a pair.

Saturdays, 10 to 10:45 a.m., "What's Cooking? Introduction to Healthy Foods That Taste Good" for ages 4 to 6; a class for ages 7 to 9 will be held from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Fee: $40. Information and registration: 410-263-7958.
