A boy believed to be about 12 years old was shot and killed last night in his home in the Glen Burnie area, Anne Arundel County police said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., police and paramedics responded to a house in the 500 block of Crestpark Drive in the Village Square community and found the child in the basement with a bullet wound to the upper body, said acting Capt. Joseph Jordan, a police spokesman.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives were interviewing two other children and the boy's mother and stepfather, all of whom were home at the time of the shooting, Jordan said.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, he said.

The boy's name was not released. An autopsy is planned today, police said.

FOR THE RECORD - An article published Aug. 22 about the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy on Crestpark Drive incorrectly identified the Rippling Estates neighborhood in which the street is located.
