Art Speaks to hold summer exhibit

Art Speaks, a joint program of Speech Pathways and Tomorrow's Treasures, will hold its summer exhibit of artwork by children with and without disabilities from tomorrow through Sept. 20 at the Westminster library branch, 50 E. Main St.

The program gives children ages 2 to 17 a chance to express themselves through art and language in all mediums.

The exhibit can be seen during library hours.

Fun Company to hold auditions

The Carroll County Arts Council, in partnership with the Maryland Ensemble Theatre's Fun Company, invites actors, ages 11 to 14, to audition for a fall production of Flapper, a madcap musical comedy tribute to the Roaring 1920s.

Auditions will be held Sept. 9 at the Carroll Arts Center, 91 W. Main St., Westminster. Ages 11 and 12 will audition from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and ages 13 and 14 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

All actors should be prepared to sing 16 bars, read from the script and dance.

The director will be Julie Herber and assistant director/stage manager, Phyllis Traynor.

Parents will be expected to volunteer to assist with the production.

The troupe fee is $110 ($100 for arts council members) and includes a T-shirt, most costumes and props, two tickets to the show and cast party.

Scholarship assistance is available for actors from households with annual incomes below $35,000.
