ASHBURN, Va. -- Ever since Clinton Portis tried to bring down a Cincinnati Bengals cornerback who had intercepted a pass from Washington Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell in the exhibition season opener Sunday night, there has been quite a bit of discussion here of how to approach the preseason.

It came up with Redskins coach Joe Gibbs the next day, after it was confirmed that Portis had a partially dislocated left shoulder and Gibbs announced that the Redskins' single-season rushing leader would be out for the rest of preseason.
