Middle River developer set to donate to school

The developers of a Middle River housing complex are expected to donate $750,000 to improve Glenmar Elementary School, if the county school board approves a memorandum of understanding at its Tuesday meeting.

Miramar Landing's townhouses, single-family homes and senior apartments, are situated on about 100 acres adjacent to the elementary school, located at 9700 Community Drive.

If approved by county school board members, the money donated to the Baltimore County Public Schools Education Foundation would be used for window replacements, air conditioning and other school improvements, according to the agreement.

The document also calls for Miramar Development Corp. to construct a new main entrance for Glenmar, as well as sidewalks, a new parking lot and an access road from Hickam Road.

Roundabout to open today

The State Highway Administration will open the permanent roundabout along Route 702 (Southeast Boulevard) at Hyde Park Road in eastern Baltimore County about noon today, weather permitting, officials said.

The permanent roundabout, which replaces a temporary roundabout installed in September 2005, is wider than the temporary one and will have additional safety features for drivers and pedestrians, including a new sidewalk along the east side of Route 702 between Middleborough Road and Hyde Park Road.

The $1.2 million project began in late July and construction work will continue through fall. Single-lane closures along westbound Route 702 may occur between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and along eastbound Route 702 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
