Terps' schedule has tough ending

Four of final 7 are against Duke, N.C. State

Highlights of the 2006-07 Maryland men's basketball schedule, which was released yesterday, include a trip to Illinois in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge followed by a matchup against Notre Dame at Verizon Center in the BB&T Classic.

The regular-season schedule begins Nov. 7, when the Terps host Hampton in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic at Comcast Center. The winner of the College Park Regional will advance to Madison Square Garden for the championship rounds of the tournament on Nov. 16-17.

Michigan State, Texas and St. John's are also regional hosts of the 16-team tournament.

Maryland begins Atlantic Coast Conference play Dec. 10 at Boston College in a game to be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net. Four of Maryland's last seven games are against Duke and North Carolina State.

Winthrop and Iona are the only other nonconference teams on Maryland's schedule with a Rating Percentage Index better than 100. The season begins Nov. 1 with an exhibition game against California (Pa.).
