Blue Jays update

After ending a seven-game losing skid Aug. 6, the Blue Jays entered last night's series finale against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, winners of seven of their past 10 games to stay within striking distance in the American League East. While injuries have depleted their pitching staff, the Blue Jays entered last night tied for first in the AL with a .287 team batting average. On Aug. 9 at Rogers Centre, Halladay beat Bedard and the Orioles, 4-3. Halladay, who became the first pitcher in the league to reach the 15-win plateau this week, is 2-0 with a 2.82 ERA in three starts against the Orioles this season and 13-4 with a 2.94 ERA in 18 starts against them over his career. Blue Jays closer B.J. Ryan has six saves against his former team this season. Ryan has allowed just one hit to the Orioles in eight innings this year. Toronto has taken 10 of 16 games between the teams in 2006.
