The skinny on local clubs

August 17, 2006|By SAM SESSA

Rafters This narrow Federal Hill neighborhood bar has Formstone on the

outside and the inside. With a few flat-screen TVs and a pool table in the back, it's a destination for local yuppies and some natives too.

Where -- 620 E. Fort Ave.

Call -- 410-576-1140

Notable -- Rafters serves "Buggy Bombs," its take on Irish carbombs. It's made with Lancaster Original Milk Stout instead of Guinness and tastes a little more like coffee.

Vibe -- Even when Rafters is half full, it gets loud and rowdy. One night last week, the flat-screens were tuned to sports, but they were overpowered by conversation and '80s tunes from the jukebox.

Crowd -- You'll see mostly 20- and 30-somethings, but also a few couples in their 40s and 50s.

What to wear -- Keep it casual: Jeans, T-shirts are the standard for weeknights, though you could wear something a little nicer on the weekends and not feel out of place.
