Anne Arundel County police have identified a man who was killed in Odenton early Saturday as a former federal officer.

Benjamin Howard Curtis, 47, of Columbia was shot in the upper body about 3 a.m. as he was sitting in his Ford Expedition on the parking lot of My Place Bar and Lounge with an unidentified female companion, police said.

Curtis had been an officer for three years in the Federal Protective Service, which guards federal buildings. He left that job this year, according to a spokesman there.
