August 16, 2006

Three men were shot, one of them fatally, early yesterday in West Baltimore - the city's second triple shooting in as many days, police said.

Police had not determined the motive for the shootings, which occurred about 12:15 a.m. in the 2700 block of Clifton Ave.

The two surviving victims, ages 36 and 27, told detectives that an unknown man approached them and opened fire as they walked up the street, hitting each of them in at least one leg.

The third man, Harold Williams, 27, of the 1700 block of Ashburton St., was shot in the left thigh and died 45 minutes later at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Police say the bullet may have pierced Williams' femoral artery.

The killing brought to 171 the number of homicides in the city, compared with 176 at the same time last year, police said.

Early Monday, Ryan J. Teel, 23, of the 3000 block or Mayfield Ave., was fatally shot and two teenage boys were wounded as they sat on the front steps of a house in the 400 block of Ilchester Ave. in North Baltimore's Harwood neighborhood.
