Yankees update

The Orioles haven't won a season series against the Yankees since 1997. The Yankees are 6-3 against the Orioles this season. They had lost three of four before last night's 7-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels that gave them a two-game lead in the American League East. The Yankees ranked fourth in baseball in runs scored entering yesterday. Shortstop Derek Jeter is having an MVP-caliber season with a .344 average, 80 runs scored and 26 steals in 29 attempts. Jason Giambi leads the Yankees in home runs with 34 and RBIs with 93. Despite much criticism, Alex Rodriguez has hit 25 homers, scored 82 runs and driven in 85, all figures that would lead the Orioles. Outfielder Bobby Abreu has hit .346 since the Yankees acquired him at the trade deadline. Bedard, tonight's Orioles starter, is 1-3 with a 6.45 ERA in six career starts against the Yankees. Tomorrow's starter, Loewen, held the Yankees to one hit and no runs in 6 1/3 innings on Aug. 5 in the best start of his career.
