From The Sun, Aug. 15, 1876: "Letter from Ellicott City - Our city for some time past has presented an animated appearance from the great number of farm wagons delivering wheat at the Patapsco flour mills. At times scores of wagons are awaiting to deliver their offerings of the `golden grain.' About 30,000 bushels of wheat have been received since July 1 at those mills from the farmers of Howard, Montgomery, Carroll and Frederick counties. The prices have varied from 90 cents to $1.15 , the quality of course governing the price."
