Seminar Tuesday on accountability

The Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will hold a seminar series, "Building Accountability in a High-Performance Culture with More Productivity," from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Small Business Development Center, 2660 Riva Road, Suite 200.

Chamber plans mixer at stadium Thursday

The Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will hold its Signature Mixer from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Participants will help kick off the 2006 Navy football season.

The cost is $25 with paid advance registration, $35 at the door, $45 for nonmembers.

BankAnnapolis hires vice president

BankAnnapolis has hired Paul Raflo as vice president in its business development group. He will focus on developing new business relationships for the Kent Island branch office.

Raflo has worked in commercial, mortgage and retail lending, and in securities sales and bank products and services for more than 25 years.

He is a former vice president of commercial lending at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Hamilton, Va. Raflo lives on Kent Island.

Correct RX hires general manager

Sheldon Pelovitz, a former pharmacy employee at Giant Food of Maryland, has been hired by Correct RX in Linthicum as general manager of operations.

Pelovitz brings more than three decades of pharmaceutical and managerial experience to Correct RX.

He graduated from the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy in 1973. He currently resides in Columbia.

Golf event raises $25,000 for children

BankAnnapolis and Anne Arundel Court-Appointed Special Advocates raised about $25,000 at the Tee Up For A Child golf tournament.

This is the sixth year that the advocacy group, a nonprofit organization that advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system, has held the fundraiser and the fourth for which BankAnnapolis has been the primary sponsor.

BankAnnapolis, founded in 1990, has six community banking offices in Anne Arundel and Queen Anne's counties.

Severn Bancorp wins high ranking

Severn Bancorp, Inc has placed fifth among U.S. Banker magazine's Top 200 Community Banks. The ranking was based on the three-year average return on equity.

Also, Sandler O'Neill's 2006 Bank & Thrift Sm-All Stars chose Severn Bancorp as one of the 34 top-performing small-cap banks and thrifts in the nation in terms of growth, profitability, credit quality and capital strength. This is the third consecutive year that Severn Bancorp has made the list. It was the only Maryland bank selected.
