McNair scores in debut

He ends `perfect' drive running for TD in lone action vs. Giants

Giants 17 Ravens 16

Air McNair officially took flight last night.

In a near-flawless debut that headlined the Ravens' preseason 17-16 loss to the New York Giants, Steve McNair energized a dormant offense and electrified an M&T Bank crowd of 70,249, leading the Ravens to a touchdown in his first and only drive.

How McNair did -- Quarterback Steve McNair raised expectations even higher last night, completing four of five passes for 45 yards before running for a 6-yard touchdown. The 12-play, 80-yard drive was his only one of the game.

Biggest surprise -- Running back Jamal Lewis. After being limited in contact drills in camp, Lewis quickly found his rhythm, making cutbacks that were non- existent last year. He finished with 34 yards on six carries.

Biggest absence -- Linebacker Ray Lewis. The Ravens want to give him another week to show explosiveness in practice before putting him in a game. Lewis had hamstring surgery in December.
