Red Sox update

Boston has dominated the Orioles this year, beating them eight times in nine games, including a commandingthree-game sweep when the Orioles visited Fenway Park the first weekend in May. The Red Sox, however, have lost back-to-back series to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Kansas City Royals, the two worst teams in the American League, to fall three games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East. Catcher Javy Lopez, whom the Red Sox acquired last week from the Orioles when Jason Varitek went on the disabled list, is 4-for-14 with two RBIs for his new team. He did not play last night as Kansas City completed its sweep with a 5-4 win. Earlier this week, David Ortiz became the first Red Sox player ever with three straight 40-homer seasons. He leads the majors in home runs (41) and RBIs (110). Manny Ramirez extended his career-best hitting streak to 25 games last night, going 2-for-4 to raise his average to .324.
