DRAWING ON AN EXPERT -- Professional caricature artist Rick Wright will give free instruction and a drawing demonstration from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Enoch Pratt Free Library's Hamilton Branch, 5910 Harford Road. He also will appear from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Central Library, 400 Cathedral St.


AQUARIUM CELEBRATES -- The National Aquarium in Baltimore will begin a monthlong celebration of its 25th anniversary at 11 a.m. with a performance by the Baltimore Islanders steel drum band and free tours of two ships. At noon, the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Waterfront Park on Pier 3 will be dedicated and from noon to 4 p.m. there will be an interactive musical celebration for children. Admission to the aquarium at 501 E. Pratt St. is $21.95 for adults, $12.95 for children 3-11, $20.95 for adults 60 and older, and free for children younger than 3. or 410-576-3800.


SMOKEY'S BIRTHDAY -- The Eden Mill Nature Center will mark Smokey Bear's 62nd birthday with a campfire celebration from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the center, 1617 Eden Mill Road, Pylesville. Admission is free, but registration is required. 410-836-3050 or


CODE HOME RULE -- Carroll County commissioners will meet at 1:30 p.m. to discuss whether to put code home rule to referendum this year. The meeting will be in Room 300A of the County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster. 410-386-2043.

NONFICTION CONFERENCE -- Goucher College's 11th annual creative nonfiction conference will include a reading by essayist and reviewer Kathryn Harrison at 7:30 p.m. at the college's Merrick Lecture Hall, 1021 Dulaney Valley Road. BARBECUE BASH -- The fifth annual Maryland Barbecue Bash will be held from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Bond and Thomas streets in Bel Air. It will continue from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. Admission to the festival sponsored by the Bel Air Downtown Alliance is free.


NIGERIAN FESTIVAL -- Naija Fest 2006, Baltimore's fourth annual Nigerian festival, will take place from noon to 8 p.m. at Patterson Park, Eastern and Linwood avenues. The event is part of the city's Showcase of Nations ethnic festivals. Admission is $5 and free for children ages 10 and under. 410-608-0420 or

CARROLL PEACHES -- A peach festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the farmers' market at the Carroll County Agriculture Center, 700 Agriculture Center Drive, Westminster. In addition to food, there will entertainment and crafts. Admission is free. 410-848-7748.

YOUTH ART -- The Creative Alliance will hold a reception from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to recognize the young people who created artwork in summer youth art programs. The event will be at 3134 Eastern Ave.
