On Thursday August 3, 2006, MARGARET A. (nee Shoemaker) STEVENS, 71, of Red Lion, died at her residence. She was the beloved wife of Melvin R. Stevens. The couple would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on October 25, 2006. Mrs. Stevens was born January 2, 1935 in Bloomsburg, PA, a daughter fo the late Philip and Catherine (Mayan) Shoemaker. Margaret took singing lessons at the Peabody Institute of John Hopkins and sang on the Buddy Dean Show, Baltimore. She met Melvin while singing at the Navy Mother's Club of America. She enjoyed tending to houseplants and she took pleasure in sewing. Margaret was a skilled cook and liked to prepare meals for the family. She loved horses and had one as a child. As an adult, she became a dog lover, especially Schnauzers. In addition to Melvin, Margaret is survived by two sons, Michael P. and Cheryl Stevens of Parkton, MD and Donald A. and Vycky Stevens of Red Lion; two daughters, Sharon M. Stevens and her significant other of York and Theresa K. and Richard Cushing of Churchville, MD; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary K. Ledyard and Phyllis J. Shoemaker. A Funeral service will be held 10 A.M. on Monday at the Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Home, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. A viewing will be 9 to 10 A.M. Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Parkwood Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.
