Center to present `Peter & The Wolf'

The Carroll Arts Center will present a live children's theater production of Peter & The Wolf at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday at 91 W. Main St., Westminster.

The Fun Company (part of the Maryland Ensemble Theatre, based in Frederick) will unleash a rootin'-tootin' version of this classic tale set in the Wild West.

Set to a musical underscore, Peter and his friends Sanchez the Cat, Miss Daisy the Duck and Searchin' Bird try to catch Wiley Wolf before Miss Daisy's goose is cooked.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for Arts Council members, children 12 and younger and seniors 60 and older.

Festival to celebrate opening of studio

Jimmy Chrzanowski of Sykesville is celebrating the opening of his professional recording studio, Intricatus Records LLC, and its first "Music is Life" Festival Aug. 19 at the Shipley Arena at the Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster.

The studio's motto is "Where Music is Life," and its focus is the support of local musicians.

The line-up of performers is: Jinx, 10:30 a.m.; Mind, 11:15 a.m.; Fools & Horses, noon; Down to This, 1:15 p.m.; Havok in Hollywood, 2 p.m.; Anamide, 3:15 p.m.; Falls Ending, 4:15 p.m.; Uninterrupted, 5:15 p.m.; Since, 6:15 p.m.; Molotov Valentine, 7:15 p.m.; aFreudian Slip, 8:15 p.m.; Fourth Element, 9:30 p.m.

Tickets are $15, and free for children 8 and younger. Tickets are available at Coffey Music in Westminster.

Hot Blues Festival at Oregon Ridge

Common Ground on the Hill will present its annual Hot August Blues Festival from noon to 10 p.m. Aug. 19 at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville.

Featured performers include: Lea Gilmore at noon, Peter Karp at 1 p.m., Lil' Brian and the Zydeco Travelers at 2:15 p.m., Larry McCray at 4 p.m., the Subdudes at 6 p.m. and the North Mississippi Allstars at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the gate. Children 12 and younger are admitted free. Children's activities will include face painting, harmonica and percussion workshops, Choo Choo Charlie Williams, and a playground.
