Otakon weekend

The lowdown -- The 13th Otakon, a celebration of Japanese animation, manga, J-pop and East Asian culture, comes to the Baltimore Convention Center this weekend. Expect anime music video screenings, concerts from Japanese artists Yoshiki, Mucc and Nana Kitade at Rams Head Live, fan-produced video screenings, a game show, costume contests, karaoke, a modeling contest and a masquerade.

If you go -- The Baltimore Convention Center is at 1 W. Pratt St. Limited spots are still available. Registration is $60 and takes places tomorrow and Saturday 8:30 a.m.-midnight and Sunday 9 a.m.-noon. Otakon activities run from 8:30 a.m. until 2 a.m. tomorrow and Saturday and from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Visit www.otakon.com or call 410-649-7000.

Arts Collective

The lowdown -- The Hamilton Arts Collective will show R.O.T.O.R. and R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet 1-12 Tuesday. R.O.T.O.R. (Robotic Officer Tactical Operation Research) is about a robot that is supposed to fight crime but instead breaks out of its lab and goes on a killing spree.

If you go -- The Hamilton Arts Collective is at 5440 Harford Road on the third floor. Admission is $5. Guests can bring their own food and drinks. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the feature starts at 8:15 p.m. Visit www.hamiltonarts collective.org or call 443-653-2120.

`The Wire' DVD

The lowdown -- The DVD release for the third season of HBO's The Wire will take place at the Sound Garden in Fells Point on Tuesday. Cast members, writers and producers, including show creator David Simon, will be there to sign autographs.
