Pork Association to select candidates

The Maryland Pork Producers Association will elect two pork producer candidates for the 2007 Delegation Body of the National Pork Board at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Maryland Department of Agriculture in Annapolis.

All Maryland pork producers are invited to the association's board of directors meeting. Any producer who is a state resident and has paid all assessments may be considered as a delegate candidate.

Eligible producers should take a sales receipt proving that hogs were sold in their name and the checkoff money was deducted.

Brain injury group's holds peach event

The Brain Injury Association of Maryland will hold its 10th annual Eat a Peach Challenge Bike Ride Aug. 12 with the Carroll County Farmers' Market and Craft Show peach festival. Special hours for this market will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Peach treats and recipes will be available from vendors, including peach ice cream and sundaes from Baugher's. The General Store Band will play country music. Carol Reightler will demonstrate quilting.

Bus trip scheduled to Ag Progress Days

The Carroll County Cooperative Extension Office is sponsoring a bus trip Aug. 16 to the Ag Progress Days at Penn State University in State College, Pa.

The bus will leave the Carroll County Agriculture Center on Smith Avenue in Westminster at 6 a.m. and travel to Penn State. No breakfast stop will be made, and lunch is on your own. A stop will be made for a buffet dinner on the return trip.

The cost is $20 for the bus, morning snacks and dinner.

Reservations are required by Aug. 11.
