Park seeks to fill several positions

Patapsco Valley State Park is seeking volunteers, ages 12 and older, to work with members of the park's trails crew from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 12, Sept. 30 and Oct. 21, weather permitting.

Volunteers, who will be notified of the location by e-mail, should take gloves, sturdy footwear, a hat, water, safety glasses, sunscreen, insect repellent and snacks.

Volunteers are also needed to staff visitor centers, lead interpretive programs, guide nature walks, host camps and help with animal care, publicity, newsletter production, restoration, gardening, photography, control-station staffing, maintenance and other tasks.

Programs for needy are seeking help

FISH of Howard County is seeking volunteers to help with its programs for the needy. The organization offers food and limited financial aid for utility bills, rent and prescription drugs.

Churches, schools, businesses, individuals and service groups provide the resources. Additional funding comes from the Horizon and Columbia foundations.

Disaster-readiness volunteers needed

The Volunteer Center Serving Howard County, in cooperation with Community Emergency Response Network, is recruiting community members and referring them to local nonprofit and government agencies needing volunteers for disaster preparedness and recovery.

An orientation will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Savage branch library, 9525 Durness Lane.
