Smithereens

The lowdown -- The Smithereens haven't released a new album since 1999, but this band, which was once a mainstay on college radio, is still touring. The band plays a free show at Power Plant Live tonight. Drawing heavily on influences from the '50s and '60s, including Buddy Holly, the Who and the Clash, the band plays British invasion-era pop with heavy edge.

If you go -- Power Plant Live is at 34 Market Place. The show starts at 8 p.m. and is ages 21 and older. Call 410-727-5483 or visit powerplantlive.com.

Marry your pet

The lowdown -- Marry your pet at the Ottobar tonight with the Interspecies Marriage Ceremony. The club will administer the ceremony and give a limousine ride around the block. The side of the limo will read "Just married ... to my pet." The night's activities also include a George Thorogood look-alike contest, the winner of which will receive a large bar tab. Two-for-one drinks will be available throughout the night.

If you go -- The Ottobar is at 2549 N. Howard St. Doors open at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge. Call 410-662-0069 or visit theottobar.com.

Big night

The lowdown -- Saturday night, Fletcher's is offering a $12 triple bill. Big City Rock and October Fall play upbeat pop-rock, with keyboardists giving their sounds somewhat of a new wave feel. Needtobreathe is a softer, emo-rock sounding band.

If you go -- Doors open at 8 p.m. Fletcher's is at 701 S. Bond St. Call 410-558-1889 or visit fletchersbar.com.
