Nora Wagner, 89, nurse, homemaker

Nora E. Wagner, a registered nurse and homemaker, died of heart failure Sunday at Chester River Hospital Center in Chestertown. She was 89.

Nora Edwards was born and raised in Ingleside, Va., and was a 1939 graduate of the old Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

She was an operating room nurse supervisor for eight years until her 1947 marriage to Dr. John Alfred Wagner, professor of medicine and chairman of the pathology department at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He died in 1977.

A longtime resident of Overhill Road in Guilford, she moved in 1990 to Chestertown.

Mrs. Wagner was an accomplished seamstress who made her own clothes, and an avid gardener.

She was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chestertown, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday.

Surviving are a son, John A. Wagner Jr. of Chestertown; two daughters, Katherine Edwards Wagner of Chestertown and Jean Caroline Kermath of Roberts Creek, British Columbia; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
