Roch Around the Clock

Nice four-hit shutout by John Maine on Friday night, but I have no regrets over the Orioles trading him to the New York Mets for Kris Benson.

If a young starting pitcher had to be sacrificed, and that's usually how these deals work, Maine was a good choice. I'd still rather have Daniel Cabrera, and his huge upside, in the system.

If only he could find a league that had a huge strike zone.

Shea Hillenbrand won't be coming to the Orioles. The Blue Jays traded him to the San Francisco Giants, which means Hillenbrand no longer will be the biggest jerk in his clubhouse.

Did you know?

That Oriole pitchers went into last night having allowed eight grand slams among their 133 home runs this season?

That Jose Canseco received $250 for winning the home run contest at the inaugural Golden Baseball League All-Star Game?

That among the items sitting on my kitchen counter are a 2.48-pound container of vanilla creme-flavored Muscle Milk, a box containing 20 packets of Mega Creatine and bottles of L-Glutamine, CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) and flaxseed oil 1000 capsules, yet I've never been investigated by federal authorities or contacted by the San Francisco Chronicle?
