On July 20, 2006, DOROTHY MARGARET VOLK (one who dedicated her life to the service of others through church and community) beloved wife of William John Volk; loving mother of Helene Davis and husband Walter, Barbara Volk and husband Mik Wright, and Beverly Volk; cherished grandmother of Jesse, Naomi, Sonja, William, Autumn, Leila, Bella, and Dylan; devoted sister of Herman Jurgensen and Gus Zimmerman; dear friend to Peggy Burk and Craig Gahm. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 P.M. Sunday evening at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church with a prayer service 8:15 P.M. A funeral service will be held 10 A.M. Monday at the church. Interment Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cemetery-Elkridge. Memorial contributions in Dorothy's name may be made to American Cancer Society, 8219 Town Center Drive-Baltimore, MD 21236 or Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church-4605 Bel Air Road-Baltimore, Maryland 21206LAGE, TEXAS JOSEPHINE "JO" LOIACONO WEST, 78, a retired federal government budget officer, went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Monday, July 17, 2006, from hemolytic anemia and other conditions. Jo was born Feb. 15, 1928, in Sparrows Point, Md. She attended Sparrows Point High School. On June 1, 1947, she married Homer Dennis West of Richwood, W. Va., who was in the Navy. Jo worked almost her entire life for the federal government. She started as a filing clerk, learned to type and do steno. She worked for the U.S. Army. Some of the longest commands she worked in were Combat Development Intelligence Command at Fort Holabird, Provost Marshall's Office, Fort Meade. She retired as budget officer for the Military Enlistment Processing Command (MEPCOM) in Fort Meade. MEPCOM processes all military enlistments. She was responsible for the 25 eastern sector's processing stations and headquarters budget, $20, 000, 000. She retired in 1983. Jo was an active member of Bethel Assembly of God until she moved to Texas in 2001. She was a Sunday school teacher and assistant superintendent of primary and teenage departments. She was a member of the church choir. She also served as secretary on the church board. She served as an officer of the PTAs at Merritt Point Elementary, Dundalk Jr. High School, and was on the founding committee of the PTA for Patapsco Senior High, where she later served as president. She also served as corresponding secretary of the Baltimore County School Board Nominating Committee. She was secretary and a member of the board of directors of the Fort Holabird Credit Union. She was devoted to her husband and family. She had a servant's heart and enjoyed working with people. She received numerous commendations for outstanding work from the Army, but none compare to the care she gave to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Dennis West, brothers, Carmelo, Sam, and Anthony Loiacono, and sister, Mary Foley. Survivors: Children, H. David West of Fort Worth, Roger D. West of Millersville, Md., Michael L. Williams of Salem. N.J.; sister, Angeline Desmond; sister-in-law, Carol Loiacono; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24, at Bethel Assembly of God, 7360 Waldman Avenue, Sparrows Point, Md.. Burial: Monday, July 24, 2006 in Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air, Md. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24, at Bethel Assembly of God, preceding the service. Memorials: Bethel Assembly of God. CONNELLY FUNERAL HOME Dundalk, Maryland.
