Chambers plan power breakfast

The Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will offer a Power Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Crofton Country Club, 1691 Crofton Parkway.

There will be networking, featured speakers and literature tables.

The cost is $17 in advance or $22 at the door, and $35 for nonmembers.

Baysox to host chamber mixer

The Bowie Baysox will be host to the "Bowie Baysox Multi-Chamber Business Mixer" with five Chambers of Commerce, and business organizations from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Prince George's Stadium, 4101 N.E. Crain Highway.

The event includes a picnic, a tradeshow starting at 5 p.m., and a Bowie Baysox baseball game starting at 7:05 p.m. There will be a fireworks display after the game.

The cost is $20, and free for children ages 5 and under.

Sweepstakes for strong families

The Prince George's County "Where Families Come Together" Family Reunion Sweepstakes is accepting entries through Nov. 30.

The event is in support of the Livable Communities Initiative, which aims to help strengthen families and foster pride in Prince George's County.

Entry is free and must be completed online. Prizes will be awarded to six monthly winners and one grand-prize winner.

Fort Meade is employer of year

BWI Business Partnership Inc. honored Fort George G. Meade as its 2006 Employer of the Year for the military installation's contributions to the region, its economy and its communities.

The award was presented to Commander Col. Kenneth O. McCreedy.

Fort Meade's federal campus accommodates all five branches of the military and 80 tenant organizations.

SpringHill Suites opens near BWI

Syke Hospitality LLC announced the opening of its newest hotel, SpringHill Suites Arundel Mills/BWI by Marriott. The 128-suite property joins more than 100 SpringHill Suites across the country.

The hotel, at 7544 Teague Road, Hanover, offers free transportation to and from Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Based in Baltimore, Skye Hospitality LLC was founded in 1997. It develops and operates hotels within the Hilton and Marriott systems.

Athlone underwrites Innovation Center

Athlone Global Security, Inc., (AGS) a wholly owned subsidiary of Athlone Bancorp Inc., has become a sponsor of the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC), a business accelerator for the homeland and national security sectors.

Most of the funds invested by AGS will be used for market and marketing development that help technologies mature so that innovations can transition into actual value.

CIC brings together its member companies with its partners to offer solutions in biodefense, knowledge discovery, information sharing, network security and human performance.

Grant aids prenatal care for Hispanics

The Maryland Chapter of the March of Dimes presented Anne Arundel Medical Center's Women's Education Department with a $23,000 community education grant.

The grant will enable AAMC perinatal staff and the Anne Arundel County Health Department to present a prenatal education and support program to Spanish-speaking women and their families. The program is named Comenzando Bien, and the curriculum is developed by the March of Dimes.

Hospital to open new county office

Baltimore Washington Medical Center will open a primary care office in September in western Anne Arundel County. The addition to the community was made based on the growing population and community need for medical services.

The office will be located across the street from Arundel Mills mall at 7550 Teague Road, Hanover.
