Rev. Robert C. Baumiller, 75

The Rev. Robert C. Baumiller, a Baltimore-born Jesuit priest and official of Xavier University in Cincinnati, died of a stroke Thursday at a hospital there. He was 75.

Raised on Dixie Drive in Towson, he was a 1949 graduate of Loyola High School and earned his bachelor's degree at Loyola College before entering the Society of Jesus in 1953. He earned a doctorate in biology at St. Louis University and did post-doctoral work at the University of Wisconsin. The newly elevated Cardinal Lawrence Shehan ordained him to the Roman Catholic priesthood in 1965.

After additional study at Woodstock College, he joined the faculty of Georgetown University and taught in its medical school until 1991, when he became dean of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit.

From 1995 until his death, Father Baumiller was associate dean of health programs and professor of biology and philosophy at Xavier University.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Loyola Blakefield chapel, Chestnut Avenue at North Charles Street.

Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Ann Flannery of Davie, Fla., and Harriet B. Perrelli of Towson; and many nieces and nephews.
