Severn River searched for missing teen

July 16, 2006|By TRICIA BISHOP

The Coast Guard and Maryland Natural Resources Police were searching last night for a 16-year-old Annapolis-area youth who was missing after taking a swim in the Herald Harbor area of the Severn River.

Police said the teen and four adults had taken a 24- to 28-foot motorboat out for a day of fishing and then decided to stop for a swim on the way back. Sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., the adults noticed the boy was missing and called for help.

Anne Arundel County Fire and Rescue units and divers assisted in the search early on, but by 11 o'clock last night, only the Coast Guard and Natural Resources Police remained.

Police do not suspect foul play and said alcohol was not a factor.
