Motorcyclist dies after hitting truck

A 42-year-old Dundalk man died early yesterday after his motorcycle struck a state highway vehicle on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway near Jessup, state police said. Luis Eduardo Santana was traveling north on the parkway near Route 100 about 1:15 a.m. when he failed to follow a detour and traveled through traffic cones, striking the rear of a parked state highway vehicle, police said. Santana, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene, police said.

Man arrested after patrol car escape

A man suspected of drunken driving was discovered yesterday at a friend's home in Sykesville after he escaped from a patrol car while handcuffed Friday night, state police said. Eric L. Berger, 26, was charged with second-degree escape and other offenses. A state trooper called to the scene of an accident about 10 p.m. Friday said Berger showed signs of alcohol use. He was locked in the police car, but escaped as the trooper investigated the accident.
