A fresh start for farmers' market

July 16, 2006

More than 100 people showed up for the recent opening of the newest summer Farmers' Market in Anne Arundel County.

It is open for business in Edgewater from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 28. Previously in downtown Annapolis on Calvert Street, the fresh produce market relocated to Main Street in South River Colony.

"That move was at the request of the vendors," said Lisa Barge, the agricultural, marketing and development manager at the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp. She estimated that about 75 local farmers participate in the county's markets.

The South River Colony market is one of six operated by the county government's agricultural programs to assist farmers. Hours of business vary. For more information, visit the Web site www.aaedc.org.
