Knorr, Doris Marie

MRS. DORIS MARIE KNORR, 74, of Frederick, formerly of Charlottesville, VA and Baltimore, MD died Sunday, July 9, 2006 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of 55 years to Dr. Norman J. Knorr. Born in Baltimore, MD on January 9, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Felix H. and Ida Weinel Morrison. Doris attended Catholic University, the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia taking courses in architecture, art and psychology. In Charlottesville she volunteered to work for Recording for the Blind. Doris's husband, Norman, was Dean of the Medical School at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville from 1976 to 1986. During that time, she dedicated herself to the activities of the medical school caring greatly for the welfare of the medical students and their families. Doris loved to travel abroad. Her best trips were those where she and Norman toured England and Italy with her family, enriching their granddaughter's home school education. Besides her husband, survivors include a daughter, Lisa Solomon and her husband Dr. Steve Solomon; and her three loving granddaughters, Laura, Jennifer and Caroline, all of Frederick. A graveside service will be held at the University of Virginia Cemetery in Charlottesville, VA on August 1, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. A reception is immediately following at the Colonnade Club, Pavilion VII. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the University of Virginia Medical School's Office of Student Affairs c/o Health System Development Office, P.O. Box 800773, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, 22908-0073. Make checks payable to the Health System Development Office and specify Office of Student Affairs. Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick , MD served the Knorr family.
